Job Description

Primary responsibility is to analyze monthly accounting data to measure investment performance for our clients.  Other responsibilities include interaction with custodian banks, reconciling portfolio returns, and creating customized graphs.  Each PA works with approximately 20 clients and is responsible for accurately calculating monthly portfolio returns and characteristics.  All types of investment transactions are tracked and processed using custom PC software.  Data is gathered from hard copy statements, and electronically using various bank downloads and data files.  Data input is required and is an important component of the job.  Each PA interacts with multiple analysts and consultants within NEPC, as well as with our clients’ custodians and investment managers.

Job Description

The Private Markets Analyst supports the investment consulting team and assists with the  gathering of data for manager analysis and due diligence.  This individual will be responsible for reaching out to individual fund managers and fund of funds to gather data and synthesize it for the Consulting team.  During the analysis process the analyst will begin to build and maintain knowledge of private equity real estate managers.  Over time they will gain access to manager meetings and learn the due diligence process in detail.  They will also begin to do manager write-ups.  This individual will utilized strong Excel spreadsheet capabilities as well as proactive communication and outreach skills to support the Real Estate consulting team in their efforts to fully vet and recommend managers for NEPC client portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather data from multiple managers and analyze and organize data for further review by consulting team.
  • Help prepare PowerPoint presentations, manager write-ups, research updates and other communication materials for clients.
  • Overtime develop a basic knowledge level of these managers in order to serve as an internal resource to consultants and consulting analysts seeking current information.
  •  Participate in evaluating and monitoring real estate managers including attending and participating in meetings with managers, summarizing meeting outcomes, and evaluating the organization, and investment strategy, process, and performance.
  • Participate in the data collection process to ensure accurate entry of quantitative and qualitative information into the database for use in written due diligence reports.
  • Work with the Real Estate team to prioritize the list of managers/funds for which due diligence reports will be created.
  • Develop research and documentation for the private market surveys, trends and other related analysis.
  • Participate in monitoring the clients' Real Estate managers.
  • Assist in the specification, evaluation, selection, and on-going improvement of the firm’s manager research analysis and knowledge management technology.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics or Business with one year plus of work experience in a finance or investment related role.  Some exposure to real estate a plus but not required.   Must have  strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, attention to detail.  Strong writing and analytical abilities are necessary.  Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills are imperative, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.  Must have the ability to produce a quality written product.  Ability and willingness to effectively engage in conversation with managers, references, and clients.  Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
