Consultants are creating separate platforms within their research units to better evaluate startup and niche asset management firms and make their products available to clients.
Over a year ago, NEPC developed a “discovery platform” dedicated to managers that are early in their life cycle and managers that cover niche asset classes.
Since its inception, NEPC’s research team has added 12 managers they deem to be startups or managers that are dedicated to specialized segments of the market, says Tim McCusker, CIO at NEPC.
For these managers, it’s often challenging for them to foster relationships with consultants and institutional investors.
